The goal of both the portrait artist and the client is the creation of a painting which is pleasing, captures the likeness and personality of the subject, and is able to stand on its own merits as a work of art.
* Initially there are several factors to be determined. On average it will take two to three meetings to produce a quality portrait. The first meeting will be either at the subject's home or at another designated location. At this time the basic composition of the portrait is determined: including size, format, clothing, tone, background and lighting.
Arrangements will be made for a photography session which will take approximately one to two hours. All photography necessary to paint the portrait is done by the artist.
* At the second meeting the photos are analyzed and the final decision is made as to pose, photo reference and size of painting. If necessary, additional photos are taken.
Once the commission is agreed upon, I will give you a time frame for completion of the portrait. A downpayment of fifty percent of the cost of the portrait is due at this time.
Upon completion of the portrait and acceptance by the client, the balance is due in full. The portrait becomes the possession of the client upon full payment of balance.
* Shipping costs, travel expenses (other than local) and framing if applicable are an additional cost paid by the client. There is no additional fee for the photography session, this is included in the cost of the portrait.
* Posthumous portraits can be created using available photographs. This of course depends on the quality of the photographs available.
* Pricing is determined by size of portrait, complexity of background and number of figures to be included.
I make every effort to create a work of art that you will cherish. I use time honored methods and materials in the production of these works of art, including Belgian linen and kiln dried stretcher bars. By utilizing these methods and fine materials, you can be assured that you will have a work of art that will last for many generations and will become a family heirloom to be passed down to future generations.
* In addition to oil paintings, I also offer charcoal and pastel works on archival paper. These are perfect as gifts for grandparents or someone special. A gift card for these works can be purchased from me and presented by you to that special someone.
Please feel free to contact me either by phone (225-567-5454) or email through the "Contact the Artist" page here on my website. I will be happy to answer any questions you may have about the process and the art of portraiture as well as prices.
Thanks,
Alicia Kornick
